Bioderma Batch Codes (DDDY): Day First, Year Last

Bioderma's code puts the day of the year before the year digit — the mirror image of Coty's. And most Bioderma packs print an expiry date anyway.

How the code is built

Bioderma, owned by NAOS, writes the day of the year first — three digits, 001 to 366 — followed by the last digit of the production year. It is the exact reverse of Coty's YDDD, and reading one with the other's rule gives a wrong answer that looks right.

Fortunately Bioderma makes the point moot on most products by printing an explicit expiry date on the pack. When a real expiry date exists, no decoding is needed and none should be trusted over it.

Reading one by hand

  • First three digits: the day of the year. Divide by about 30.4 for the month.
  • Fourth digit: the last digit of the year.
  • Then check the pack for a printed expiry date, which supersedes all of the above.

FAQ

Does micellar water go off?

It has preservatives and a long shelf life, but it is water-based, and water-based products are the ones that actually spoil. Once opened, follow the PAO symbol.
